2. Understanding your driving score

Your driving score reflects how safe a driver we think you are and can range from 0 to 100 but is normally in the range 40 to 95. The higher the score, the safer a driver we think you are. We expect a reasonably safe driver to achieve a score of 70.

Your driving score is determined from six underlying driving behaviours – ‘Safe speeds’ being the most important – see below definitions. We take into account your driving for the last 12 months or from your policy start date (whichever is the more recent).

You can find your driving score on the app and, by pressing ‘Your driving score’, you can see a short summary of your driving behaviour along with your score for each of the six underlying driving behaviours – see below example.

Note: The ‘Familiar roads’ driving score starts at zero and will only improve when we’ve started to get a picture of what roads you use regularly – see ‘Familiar roads’ FAQ.

3. How to improve your driving score

‘Safe speeds’, ‘Consistency’ and ‘Smoothness’ are the driving behaviours which have the most impact on your driving score – ‘Safe speeds’ being the most important factor.

We recommend you review your scores for each of these and identify where you can improve. You might want to use our hints and tips below.
